MICROMETRICALLY ADJUSTABLE STAYS TO ALLEVIATE STRESS ON THE SEAT AND CHASSIS

“Must have” doesn’t mean just large and small accessories that you’ve got to have; when you’re on the track, perhaps on your own, “must have” might also mean an elastic in the right place; a pinch of extra safety, an improvised clamp, an adjustable seat stay ... anything and everything that helps you get the maximum enjoyment – safely - out of your day out karting. Here are four little tricks we’ve “stolen” from professional drivers and mechanics out on the track.

SANDPAPER ON THE TUBES

Technology? Indispensable! Budgeting? Crucial! The most recently homologated kart? A dream! But even sandpaper can make the difference! That’s right, because the most intelligent solution is not always the most expensive one. For example, to better block the engine plate to the chassis, without tightening the engine mounting brackets to the point of damaging the wrench, the right accessory is two strips of coarse-grained sandpaper (60-80 grit). All you have to do is position them on the tubes where the engine plate lies, attaching them to the ends with some tape. Besides protecting the chassis, the paper makes the tube surfaces more suitable to the brackets of the engine plate; and what’s more, it increases friction and reinforces adherence thanks to the coarseness of the surface. Once the engine has been mounted, in fact, and the chain tension has been properly adjusted (better on the loose side than too taut), the whole unit must be absolutely immobilized. And sandpaper works very well for this purpose.

SEAT STAYS WITH MICROMETRIC ADJUSTMENT

In a sport where a hundredth of a second makes all the difference, precision is never an optional. That’s why round seat brackets with micrometric adjustable length can be an extremely useful accessory. These stays are composed of two parts, held together by an internal threaded pin. By screwing and unscrewing the pin you adjust the length of the brackets which will then be locked, as always, by nut and locknut.
A solution that makes it possible to position the seat without forcing, connecting it to the chassis so that the bolt holes are perfectly aligned. This way the seat and chassis avoid needless strain and the kart works to the utmost of its capabilities.
