Wet conditions generate great eliminatory heats and qualifying in Adria for WSK Super Masters season opener

WSK Super Masters Series has officially started today with the first official practice, qualifying and heats of the championship for OK, OK-Junior and Mini classes in Adria Karting Raceway. Rain conditions had a special impact in the event, specially in Mini class.

OK: Sebastian Ogaard gets crucial pole position



Practices were only dominated by two boys, Taylor Barnard (Rosberg Racing Academy) and Kirill Smal (Ward Racing).

But both drivers weren’t able to materialize that in qualifying practice. Sebastian Ogaard from Ward Racing was the quickest by a less than a thousand of a second from Aleksey Sizov (Team Komarov) and 2017 Junior champion, Dexter Patterson (KR Motorsport).

In the afternoon with the sun falling down, two eliminatory took place. Eliminatory heat A-B was won by Dilano Van t’Hoff while eliminatory C-D the Russian, Kirill Smal was the winner.

OK-Junior: Paolo Ferrari shines in wet-qualifying



After official practice sessions that were led by Tony Kart Racing Team drivers (Nikita Bedrin and Josep Maria Martí) and Brando Badoer from Parolin Racing Kart, the qualifying was set to see them as favorites.

But surprisingly, it was the Italian driver from Gold Kart Racing Team, Paolo Ferrari who got the pole position with a lap-time of 1:04.948, a lap that was set in group 2 of qualifying where he was followed by Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (Baby Race Driver Academy) and Robert de Haan (Energy Corse).

In group 1, the quickest was the favorite for this event, Nikita Bedrin who finished ahead of Brando Badoer and Thomas Ten Brinke (Ricky Flynn Motorsport).

Also, today two qualifying heats has taken place. In heat C-E, Kucharczyk dominated and won by 3 seconds from De Haan. In heat B-D, a crash at the start between Nikita Bedrin and Brando Badoer allowed Josep Maria Martí to led the field and battle for first place with Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Rosberg Racing Academy) who finally finished second.

Mini: Josh Irfan the quickest in qualifying


Moring free practice session were led by Russians Kirill Kutskov, Mark Koziaev and Alexandr Tibekin, Polish Maksim Orlov, together with Anatoly Khavalkin and Manuel Scognamiglio.

In qualifying, Josh Irfan (Baby Race Driver Academy) who showed his good pace last weekend in WSK Champions Cup, set the pole position with a lap-time of 1:09.954. He was followed by Gamoto driver, Manuel Scognamiglio and Baby Race Driver Academy team mate, Maksimilian Popov.

The eliminatory heats took place already with artificial lights in the Adria Karting Raceway and heavy rain conditions. In heat A-B, Tony Kart Racing Team new driver William MacIntyre was in a class of his own and easily beat Irfan. In heat C-D, Rashid Al Dhaheri from Parolin Racing Kart won after a incredible comeback of 10 places. In heat E-F, Kirill Kustkov dominated in the chaos.

Tomorrow will be a full day of eliminatory heats taking place. Thus results, will decide the grid order for Sunday pre-finals.
