Dutch driver Marjin Kremers is the newly crown FIA Karting World Champion in KZ class after taking the victory in the final race at Lonato, Italy. The Birel ART driver led a one-two for the manufacturer as Longhi finished second. The podium was completed by Lammers.

Before the final, this morning the KZ drivers had two more qualifying heats to complete the starting order.

In heat C-D despite Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart/Vortex/B’stone) started leading, a very late move from Marjin Kremers (Birel ART/TM Racing/B’stone) put the Dutch in the lead while Puhakka was also overtaken by Ricardo Longhi (Birel ART/TM Racing/B’stone) who ultimately overtook Kremers for the race victory.

In heat A-B it was a one to one battle between Adrien Renaudin (Sodi/TM Racing/B’stone) and Alessandro Irlando (Birel ART/TM Racing/B’stone) that ended up with Renaudin crossing first the checker-flag.

The final was initially a hard battle between Marjin Kremers and Adrien Renaudin, both followed closely by Matteo Viganò (Tony Kart/Vortex/B’stone).

Meanwhile, Bas Lammers (Sodi/TM Racing/B’stone) was making his comeback to the podium overtaking Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex/B’stone) for seventh place. Ardigò who was in his last World Champs, finally managed to finish seventh.

The Italian Ricardo Longhi joined the battle for the lead as he first overtook Stan Pex (KR/TM Racing/B’stone) for fourth place, and then he did the same on Matteo Viganò.

But in the lead, Adrien Renaudin finally overtook Kremers on lap 8 as both drivers were pulling away from Longhi and Viganò. The battle between Renaudin and Kremers intensified on lap 11 and 12 as Kremers retook the lead and then played a very defensive drive to secure the lead.

With 10 laps remaining, Bas Lammers overtook Puhakka for the final fourth place. Then the big battle was the comeback of Paolo De Conto (CRG/TM Racing/B’stone) who overtook both Tony Karts of Viganò and Ardigò to finish sixth at the checker-flag.

Finally, at the checker-flag, Kremers took the victory by 0.5 seconds in front of Renaudin and 0.9 of Longhi. But a post-race penalty for Renaudin dropped him down to ninth, allowing Longhi to step up to second place and Lammers to get the final step of the podium.
