PIPES FOR THE KART COOLING SYSTEM: PROS AND CONS OF THE FOUR MAIN TYPES (AND A SPECIAL ACCESSORY TO MATCH)

In karts with an engine liquid cooling system, the pipes play a fundamental role in the correct circulation of the liquid within the circuit. In fact, their management is crucial to ensure the correct flow of water to the engine and to prevent malfunctions (or even worse, breakages). On the market there are different types that differ mainly based on the material they are made of and their structure. To help you make an informed choice, we indicate the 4 main types of pipes (rubber, cloth rubber, silicone and aluminium), highlighting, for each of these, the pros and cons regarding their use. Finally, we suggest recommend an accessory dedicated to the correct installation of the pipes on karts.

To learn more about the cooling system, we recommend reading the following articles:

Non-covered rubber pipe

This is the standard pipe, used on most karts. It has an internal diameter that can vary from 12 to 16 mm (depending on the model and brand) and has the advantage of being able to be used all year round, regardless of the current weather conditions. However, since they are made exclusively of rubber, they have an important flaw to take into account: in areas where the pipe tends to have curves, there is a risk of bottlenecks forming that prevent the passage of water. The lack (or scarce) supply of coolant to the engine causes it to overheat which inevitably causes a drop in performance, as well as an increased risk of breakage. The proposed model, branded OTK Kart Parts, is 800 mm long and has a double 45° curvature, one at each end.
