VICTORY S. THE FA KART BORN TO WIN

Max Bernardi
09 April 2018
FA. Two letters that, in motorsport, can stand for either Fernando Alonso or the kart named after the Spanish driver and which gets its technology and build quality from the OTK Group (of which FA Kart is a part). Let's take a closer look at the Victory S model, the star of so many important victories in recent years.

The FA Victory S is a chassis that uses 30 mm diameter molybdenum chrome steel tubes. It has two detachable bars to vary stiffness: one at the front and one at the rear.
In its latest version, the specialists at OTK (the group to which the FA Kart brand belongs) focused in particular on the reduction of the overall weight of the chassis, an important factor to better manage weight distribution. The 1.5 mm thick floor tray is an innovation in this sense, as is the one-piece chain guard support. However, more in general, it is the quality of the materials that has made it possible to reduce the weight of the accessories, while maintaining the mechanical characteristics unaltered. This is the case, for example, for the steering column support: an open housing that is both light, yet resistant to stress at the same time.

The height of the frame can be adjusted at the rear to three positions and at the front using spacers inserted between the C and the stub axle. Caster and camber can be modified using a multi-hole with incorporated uniball eccentric bushing system; there are 20 positions available, thanks to the use of 3 mm screws. The new Victory S also has optimised welding (robotised, like all OTK chassis), which is now reduced to a minimum. Furthermore, the plates and the various supports have been eliminated by moving them to secondary areas of the chassis so that the main tube heats up as little as possible during welding, which avoids any alteration to its mechanical characteristics.

The FA Victory S chassis analysed in this article includes the BSD brake system, designed for non-shifter karts. The main feature is a one-piece forged brake caliper, a solution that increases rigidity, as well as resistance, and improves stable performance of the system. All of the above in order to provide the driver with a continuous feeling throughout the race.

Inside the caliper there are two 34.5 mm diameter pistons with stroke recovery: their task is to push the pads against the disc. The latter is self-ventilated, perforated, but not floating. It is supplied with a diameter of 180 mm as standard, but there is a 206 mm version in cases that require greater braking force.

The brake pump has a direct dual piston, a solution adopted on all OTK chassis and which, in addition to excellent performance, guarantees greater safety.
