In the late 1930s, national roads and highways were too rudimentary for any vehicle, so accidents were very common and solutions took a long time to arrive. For this reason, the first vehicle owners in Colombia saw the need to join the search for quick and safe solutions, exchange ideas and knowledge on mechanics and spread the art of driving. Although the idea seemed to be only for a small circle of friends, a group of enterprising men who had just arrived from Paris, decided to unite to form a company taking as an example the work done in the French capital by an entity charged with advising the drivers in all your needs The question was: how to adapt the French experience to the Colombian situation? The answer was a real challenge, but a group of forty friends led by Gustavo Santos Montejo decided on 10 October 1940 to give life to the Colombia Automobile Club in Bogotá. However, it was not until April 16, 1941, that with Resolution n. 33 (Executive) of the Ministry of Justice is given legal life to this institution which has since acquired a private civil and non-profit nature. As an anecdotal fact, one of the first beneficiaries of the service of the Touring & Automobile Club of Colombia, then just founded, was the President of the Republic, Eduardo Santos, who was traveling to Villeta in the company of Mrs. Lorencita Villegas de Santos and Packard where were transported, suffered mechanical damage and immediately assisted the ACC.
