CIK-FIA World Championship
This is the original CIK FIA World Championship which has been held consecutively since 1964. Originally for 100cc karts, the 135cc Formula K category was introduced in 1981 and in 1988 the Super 100 class was re-introdcued alongside what would evolve into Super A. 100cc karts contested the world championship until 2006 when KF and subsequently OK was introduced. The championship is traditionally held over a single 30km race and was only held outside Europe for the first time in 1986 (USA) then again in 1994 (Argentina) and more often in recent years. The CIK has experimented with a world series at various stages, the first time being in 2001, however it has reverted to the exciting single race format in recent years, which is in someways reminiscent of the 100 metre Olympic final. The most successful driver in history is Mike Wilson with 6 titles, followed by Francois Goldstein with 5.
