Intense sessions on the track, with KZ chassis by Birel ART, for some drivers of the Renault Sport Academy, the program of the French company that aims to grow young talents

Renault Sport Academy is a rprogram created in 2016 by Renault Sport Racing and Renault Sport Formula One Racing Team. The goal is to develop new drivers to bring them to the maximum motorsport formula. As always, among the activities of the youngsters included in the programs of the most important car manufacturers, kart training is not lacking. Renault opted to spend two days at the South Garda circuit of Lonato, during which Max Fewtrell, Leonardo Lorandi, Sabré Cook, Christian Lundgaard and Caio Collet have been at the wheel of the karts made available by Birel ART. The vehicles were KZs, so karts with gears, powered by TM Racing with Vitiracing supervision.
Among the 5, Lundgaard and Collet were already familiar with the team, having spent the last few years in karting with the reality from Lissone.

The day started with a few test sessions, with used tires, to refine the setup and get familiar with the vehicles. After various set-up changes and the padding of the seats, the drivers completed a race simulation, on the distance of 15 laps with a rolling start. Of course, the competitive spirit immediately took over and there has non been any lack of overtaking and counter-maneuvers. There was also time for a qualifying session simulation before lunch, using new tires.

After the break, the program restarted with another race simulation, this time starting from a standstill. Once again the spirit of competition soon emerged, with Lorandi and Collet making contact on the first hairpin of the comb giving paving the way to the other three drivers. In the afternoon, the boys of the Renault Sport Academy also ran simulated "time attacks", that is a short sessions of laps made up of a warm-up lap followed by 2 or 3 fast laps, with the goal to score the best time possible. At this point tough, someone started to suffer from fatigue after a whole day of training, demonstrating how challenging the KZ kart is even for young and fit drivers. But even the most tired couldn't say no to the comrades who insisted on a third race simulation.

At the end of the day, doing the math, Lorandi, Fewtrell and Collet scored each-one a victory. But above all, once again, we had the confirmation of how karting is the ideal and most challenging vehicle for driver training, able to refine driving sensibility and the ability to manage a race.
