Alex Powell has taken his maiden victory of 2019 international karting season during the third round of WSK Super Master Series at the International Circuit La Conca at Muro Leccese in the Mini 60 class. Powell beat Eyckmans for a very small gap, while Irfan completed the podium.

In the prefinals, Coskun Irfan (Parolin/TM Racing/Vega) took the victory from William MacIntyre (Parolin/TM Racing/Vega) and August Therbo (Tony Kart/TM Racing /Vega) in prefinal A. Prefinal B was won by Ean Eyckmans (Parolin/TM Racing/Vega), who finished ahead of Maksimilian Popov (Parolin/TM Racing/Vega) and Maciej Gladysz (Parolin/TM Racing/Vega).

Then in Final B was a complete crazy race with 27 drivers finishing with less than 10 seconds after 8 laps. Yaroslav Trukhin (Energy/TM Racing/Vega) won the race in front of Petr Ageev (Ip Karting /TM Racing/Vega) and Matteo de Palo (Parolin/TM Racing/Vega).

It was a clear start for the Mini drivers with Ean Eyckmans keeping the lead of the race in front of Maksimilian Popov and Coskun Irfan in a provisional one-two-three for Baby Race Driver Academy team.

As the race was progressing and with Eyckmans always controlling the race lead group, Alex Powell, also known as the “Jamaican Sensation” was making his comeback from eight place and on lap 7, he took the lead from Eyckmans.

Powell had to defend very strongly the attacks from Eyckmans, taking the victory by 0.058 seconds gap. Coskun Irfan completed the podium after holding off William MacIntyre.

In the championship standings, Ean Eyckmans overtakes Rashid Al Dhaheri in the championship lead. The Belgian driver is now 38 points clear from Al Dhaheri who had a difficult weekend. The title fight has closed up with Alex Powell in third place with less 42 points less than Eyckmans, while Eyckmans teammate, Coskun Irfan is 4th with 98 points less than the Belgian driver.

The next and final round of WSK Super Master Series will take place at the International Circuit of Napoli in Sarno, Italy during the 21st to the 24th of March.
