WSK Super Master Series, Adria: qualifying - Pole position for Bedrin (OK), Badoer (OKJ), Matveev (Mini)
Yanek Sterzel
31 January 2020

Warmer temperatures than those we experienced last weekend welcome over 230 drivers spilt into three categories (Mini, OKJ and OK). Everyone of them hit the track today for the qualifying practice and the first qualifying heats at the Adria Karting Raceway in the first round of the WSK Super Master Series.

The heats will continue throughout the day on Saturday, while on Sunday it will be time for pre-finals and finals.

OK: Nikita Bedrin's speed is unmatched

Tires: Bridgestone

  • Nikita Bedrin (Ward Racing - Tony Kart / Vortex), in the first group, surprises everyone with an unapproachable lap time: with his 48.780, the Russian will in fact remain the only one to go under the 49" mark. After a Champions Cup final not up to his skills, Nikita Bedrin seems to have worked hard and ultimately managed to find speed...

  • Enzo Trulli (KR Motorsport - KR / IAME) starts his first season in OK on a high, grabbing the second position in front of the perhaps most anticipated driver of the weekend, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport - KR / IAME) that after the stunning pole last week must now settle for third place.

  • Behind the top three comes Dilano Van'T Hoff (Forza Racing - Exprit / TM Racing), after the huge blow to his winning ambitions he took last weekend when he was forced to retire due to a contact while he was leading the Pre Final..

  • From the fifth place downwards, we find all the protagonists of the Champions Cup: Kirill Smal (Energy Corse / TM Racing), 5th, Harry Thompson (Sauber Karting Team - KR / IAME), 6th, and Robert De Haan (Energy Corse / TM Racing), 8th. Only 9th, however, is last week's winner Taylor Barnard (Rosberg Racing Academy - KR / IAME) that precedes Tereza Babickova (Skrivan Skylarks - Tony Kart / Vortex)

  • The reigning OKJ world champion Thomas Ten Brinke (Ricky Flynn Motorsport - Kosmic / Vortex) also disappoints, he who was among the contenders for the victory last Sunday up to the mess with Dilano Van'T Hoff. The Dutchman today does not go beyond the 14th position.

  • Still speaking of world champions, Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony kart / Vortex), 16th, and Pedro Hiltbrand (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart / Vortex), 36th, pulled off a performance definitely under expectations in qualifying, preceded in the final standings by their teammate Joseph Turney.Qualifying Practice results

OKJ: Brando Badoer repeats Champions Cup pole

  • Brando Badoer (KR Motorsport - KR / Iame) replicates the pole position clinched 7 days before in the WSK Champions Cup. The Italian once again proves to particularly like the Adria circuit and to be unbeatable in the single lap.

  • Behind Badoer, in the upper area of the standings , we find the drivers we predicted considering both the results in the free practice sessions in the morning and the result obtained last weekend. We are talking about the Polish Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (Briel Art Racing - RK / TM Racing) and the Singapore driver Christian Ho (Sauber Karting Team - KR / Iame), already on the podium in the Champions Cup. They are second and third respectively.

  • Also in a solid position we find other names that we could have expected at the top given the experience and performance already demonstrated in the category: the American Ugo Ugochukwu (Ricky Flynn Motorsport - Kosmic / Vortex), 5th, Arvid Lindblad (KR Motorsport - KR / Iame ), 6th, Artem Severiukhin (Ward Racing - Tony Kart / Vortex), 8th, Maxwell Dodds (Forza Racing - Exprit / TM Racing), 9th, Tuukka Taponen (Kohtala Sports - Redspeed / Iame), 10th.

  • Another Polish driver is able to set a good performance in his first race of the season: Karol Pasiewicz (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart / Vortex) who finishes 4th overall. Same good result for the Frenchman, Evan Giltaire (Sodikart - Sorikart / TM Racing). Despite not having taken part in the first event of the year, the WSK Champions Cup, both are immediately at the top.

  • The winner of the WSK Champions Cup, Alfio Spina (KR Motorsport - KR / Iame) does not impress: he is 17th in the general classification and 6th in his group. Just as worse than predicted is the result of Igor Cepil (KR Motorsport - KR / Iame). The Czech driver showed a good pace in the free practice but he finished 48th in the general classification due to a contact with another driver.Qualifying Practice results

MINI: Matveev at the top in the Qualifying Practice

  • Double satisfaction for the Russian Dmitry Matveev (Energy Corse - Energy Corse / TM Racing): in addition to taking the pole position of group 2 he is the fastest overall but above all he places himself in front of the fresh pole man of the WSK Champions Cup, Maciej Gladysz ( Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin / TM Racing), second.

  • From third to tenth position we have: Marcus Saeter (Revolution Motorsport - Energy Corse / TM Racing), Jan Przyrowsky (AV Racing - Parolin / TM Racing), the winner of the WSK Champions Cup Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin / TM Racing ), Alp Aksoy (Baby Race Driver Academy - Parolin / TM Racing) Jimmy Elias (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart / Vortex), Guillaume Bouzar (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin / TM Racing), Valerio Proietti (Giugliano Kart - KR / Iame), Enzo Tarnvanichkul (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin / TM Racing).

  • Worth noting is the excellent debut of Kai Sorensen (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart / Vorte). The American, already winner of the Skusa and the ROK the Rio final in the United States, takes the 15th postion overall standings.

  • A little off the pace one of the veterans of the category, Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin / TM Racing) who finishes 22nd overall. The UAE driver, however, last weekend showed he was able to make up ground during the heats and the final.
