Max Bernardi
11 July 2020

Under a beating sun, the MINI, OKJ, OK and KZ2 drivers finished the round of Qualifying Heats which set the starting grid for the Prefinals of the first round of the WSK Euro Series scheduled for tomorrow. Here are the final rankings at the end of the day just ended on the Naples International Circuit.

MINI: Kean Nakamura Berta climbs up the field to take the lead

Tyres: Vega

  • Kean Nakamura Berta (Team Driver Racing Kart - KR - IAME) is certainly not the type who gets discouraged after a so-so qualification. After scoring the ninth time, the Japanese is now first at the end of the heats with an almost perfect roll of three wins and a second place and a fastest a fast lap.

  • Jan Przyrowsky (AV Racing - Parolin - TM Racing) also made a good comeback, obtaining second place overall at the end of the day. The Pole boasts a win and three second places, with his speed is also proven by two fastest laps.

  • Maciej Gladysz (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin - TM Racing), with a victory, a second and two third places, sits on third place ahead of the revelation of the day, Christian Costoya Sanabria (CRG - CRG - TM Racing). The Spanish, in his debut year in the category, completes a comeback of 14 positions and caps off the day by winning a heat and scoring a fastest lap.

  • A win also for René Lammers (Baby Race Driver Academy - Parolin - TM Racing), fifth in the ranking ahead of the poleman James Egozi (Tony Kart - Tony Kart - Vortex) who obtains a victory but also two eighth places.

  • In seventh position, Guillaume Bouzar (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin - TM Racing) precedes Jimmy Helias (Tony Kart - Tony Kart - Vortex) and Riccardo Panniccia (Formula K Serafini ASD - IPK - TM Racing) ranked 15th but also able to score a third place.

  • Lenn Nijs (Team Driver racing Kart - KR - TM Racing) closes the top-ten down from third in Qualifying and finishes on equal points with Francesco Amendola (Revolution Motorsport - Energy - TM Racing).

  • Behind these two we find Adam Hideg (Baby Race Driver Academy - Parolin - TM Racing), Antonio Apicella (Apicella Rosario - Energy Corse - TM Racing), Nando Weixelbaumer (Baby Race Driver Academy - Parolin TM Racing) and, in 15th position, Dmitry Matveev (Energy Corse _Energy Corse - TM Racing), who despite not having scored a valid time in qualifying manages to win the last heat of the day. It didn't go as well for Mark Kastelic (Team Driver Racing Kart - KR - TM Racing), also with no lap time yesterday in qualifying and only 39th at the end of the heats after being involved in a crash.

OKJ: Brando Badoer always at the top

Tyres: Vega

  • Brando Badoer (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) keeps the lead of the OKJ thanks to a victory and three second places. The Italian, however, did not dominate as he has accustomed us on other occasions because the revelation of the day is Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex): the Finn, in Tony Kart since last week, manages to get three wins but a sixth place puts him behind Badoer

  • Igor Cepil (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) is third with 2 wins and as many fast laps. 2 best laps also for Freddie Slater (Ricky Flynn Motorsport - Kosmic Kart - Vortex) who, however, scored only one victory.

  • Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (Birel ART Racing - RK - TM Racing) once again proves to be one of the most consistent driver in the field and occupies the fifth position ahead of Ugo Ugochukwu (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME), winner of a heat but also of sixth place. The American precedes his new teammate Alex Powell (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) who on his first weekend with KR Motorsport gets two thirds and two fourth places.

  • The Jamaican once again finishes ahead of Alfio Spina (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) who "wastes" two victories with a fourteenth place. Behind the Italian, we find Dion Gowda (Ricky Flynn Motorsport - Kosmic Kart - Vortex), Douwe Dedecker (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) and Coskun Irfan (Ricky Flynn Motorsport - Kosmic Kart - Vortex) who recovers 34 positions at the end of the Heats.

  • Not the best performance by Karol Pasiewicz (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart-Vortex), today only twelfth ahead of Maxwell Dodds (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin TM Racing) and Alexander Gubenko (Kosmic Kart Racing Department - Kosmic Kart - Vortex) able to recover from 28th position and to finish ahead of of Valerio Rinicella (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin TM Racing), yesterday ninth and today 15th

OK: Oliver Gray again in the lead

Tyres: LeCont

  • It is still the Britiish Oliver Gray (Leclerc by Lennox Racing - Birel Art - TM Racing) to dominate the scene in the OK category. Remember that the Englishman is on his debut in international competitions and after yesterday's pole he topped the sheets also today, winning all the heats except one, in which he finished second.

  • The only heat not won by Gray went to Juho Valtanen (Pantano Team - KR - IAME) which in the penalty standings at the end of all the heats is second ahead of Taylor Barnard (Rosberg Racing Academy - KR - IAME), who drives the same package.

  • Fourth position for Joseph Turney (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart- Vortex) who keeps the Tony Kart colors high at a time when the Racing Team cannot count on the injured Pedro Hiltbrand, absent. Speaking about Tony Kart, we must mention a recovery of 16 places by Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex) who however sits in 21st place.

  • Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) is fifth. The Italian has to deal with an unfortunate round, run on Friday after qualifying, in which a penalty for the front fairing not being properly installed relegated him 8th place.

  • Positive day for Enzo Trulli (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME), Clayton Ravenscroft (Birel Art Racing - Birel Art - TM Racing) and Luigi Coluccio (Kosmic Kart Racing Department - Kosmic -Vortex), respectively 6th, 7th and 8th : the three roughly confirm yesterday's performance in qualifying.

  • Dilano Van't Hoff and Robert De Haan (Energy Corse - Energy - TM Racing) improve slightly, and thus enter the top 10: the two are 9th and 10th.

  • Nice comebacks by Thomas Ten Brinke (Ricky Flynn Motorsport - Kosmic - Vortex), 13th after 12 positions gained compared to qualifying, and Lorenzo Patrese (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME), 19th, but with 11 positions recovered compared to Friday.

  • Due to unfortunate heats, the two Brazilians Rafael Camara (Forza Racing - Exprit - TM Racing), 14th, and Matheus Morgatto (Parolin Racing Kart - Parolin - TM Racing), 15th surely don't bring home the result they wanted.

KZ2: Puhakka climbs to the top manche after manche

Tyres: Vega

  • The growth of Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex) was progressive and constant throughout the three heats races today: the Finn started from the sixth position obtained yesterday in the heats and today, probably working with his team on the setup of his vehicle, he managed to reach the victory in the last heat.

  • Last race decidedly black for the other driver of the day, Matteo Viganò (Leclerc By Lennox Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing). The standard bearer of the Charles Leclerc brand had won both previous heats, but due to a technical fault he had to retire in race three. He will start from seventh position in the pre-final and has the rhythm to go up and be in contention for the final.

  • Behind Puhakka we find two Briel Art drivers, Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing) and Giuseppe Palomba (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing). The latter seemed to be slightly faster than his teammate, especially in the last race.

  • Adrien Renaudin (Sodikart Sodikart - TM Racing) loses some positions from yesterday's pole. The Frenchman never seemed to able to compete with the performances of the Birel Art drivers and the leader Puhakka. However, he did nothing wrong and the three sixth places give him fourth place on the grid in tomorrow's pre-final.

  •  Behind the French, from fifth to ninth position we find, in order, Alessandro Irlando (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing), Jeremy Iglesias (Formula K Racing Team - Formula K - TM Racing), the aforementioned Viganò, Ciro Mollo (Federico Vincenzo - CRG -TM Racing) and Leonardo Marseglia (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing).

  • Lorenzo Camplese (SC Performance -Tony Kart - Vortex) closes the top 10 and in heats 2 and 3 reverses a situation that until then, after qualifying and heats 1, was far from positive. He thus completed the comeback of the day, with 15 positions recovered compared to qualifying.
