28 January 2018

THE HUNT FOR THE WSK CHAMPIONS CUP.
A total of 24 races have been run today at the Adria Karting Raceway by the 229 drivers fighting for the WSK Champions Cup. The racing program features a total of 34 qualifying heats that started yesterday and will end tomorrow morning with the closing three races. Several emerging talents are among the favorites to the win, some of them have already put in strong results after the grade switch. These are the best possible ingredients for the grand finale at the circuit of Adria: the main events of Prefinals and Finals are all set to some surprising results.

NIELSEN RULING THROUGHOUT OK HEATS.
Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) has been the OK top driver so far. He won in fact all the three heats he took part in. The Dane is the favourite in Prefinal A starting from the pole position, but Barbados’ driver Zane Maloney (FA Kart-Vortex) won one heat and will start alongside him. Prefinal B will see the Czech Roman Stanek (Kosmic-Vortex) on pole position. The main rival of Nielsen scored one win and two second places in the heats. The German Marius Zug (KR-Parilla) will start next to him in first row. European Champion Jonny Edgar (Exprit-TM) won one heat, but the British driver was slowed down by some hiccups in one of the heats and therefore could not go beyond a third row start.

MINÌ AGAIN ON TOP IN OK JUNIOR.
In OKJ, the young talents coming from 60 Mini are putting in surprising performances. The Italian Gabriele Minì (Parolin-Parilla-Vega) has been the quickest so far and, after the fastest time in practice and the victory in three heats, he took the pole position of Prefinal A. Next to him, the British driver Harry Thompson (FA Kart-Vortex) won two heats. The Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (CRG-TM) appeared in great shape winning three heats and securing Prefinal B’s pole position, with the Briton Taylor Barnard (KR-Parilla) to start alongside him. The Estonian driver Paul Aron (FA Kart-Vortex) also won on heat and will get away from the second row of the grid in Prefinal A, while the Swede Dino Beganovic (Tony Kart-Vortex) also won a race but will start a bit more to the back.

SKARAS ON TARGET IN KZ2.
The closing heat of the day in KZ2 had a sting in the tail, with the Romanian driver Daniel Vasile (DR-Modena-Bridgestone) missing out on the pole position because he had to stop early on after winning the first heat. The Swede Emil Skaras (Energy-TM) got the most of this and secured the pole position, taking the victory in one heat. The French driver Tom Leuillet (Sodi-TM), winner of the first heat, will start next to him. The second row of the grid will be occupied by the German Maximilian Paul (DR-Modena) and the Italian Francesco Iacovacci (Luxor-LKE).

ANTONELLI AND STENSHORNE TO THE FORE IN 60 MINI.
A stunning 7 drivers exchanged on top of 60 Mini in the heats: the Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Energy-TM-Vega) and the Norwegian Martinius Stenshorne (Parolin-TM) claimed 3 wins each. The Israeli Ariel Elkin (IP Karting-TM) scored a double win, while the Polish drivers Karol Pasiewicz (Energy-TM) and Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (Parolin-TM), the Slovakian Lukas Malek and the Italian Brando Badoer (both on Parolin-TM), the latter being former Ferrari driver Luca Badoer’s son, claimed one victory each. The fight for the pole position will resume tomorrow morning with the final heats.
