In Germany at the classic Wackersdorf circuit, the first round of FIA Karting European championship in KZ, KZ2 and Academy classes started with a very high level in all the categories during the battle for pole position.

KZ: pole position for Matteo Viganò (Tony Kart/Vortex/B’stone)

The opening round for FIA Karting European Championship for KZ started with the official Tony Kart racing driver Noah Milell (Tony Kart/Vortex/B’stone) leading the way in a practice session that was used to warm-up the engines.

In the second and third practice session we already saw better lap times with Marjin Kremers (Birel Art/TM Racing/B’stone) leading the way in practice 2, while Italian Fabian Federer (Maranello/TM Racing/B’stone) set the fastest lap in the last practice.

Then in the qualifying with not much time to set the fastest lap, Matteo Viganò (Tony Kart/Vortex/B’stone) set the fastest lap with a time of 46.991 seconds. A very valuable pole position, because the top 8 was separated by less than a tenth, while the top 19 has only 3 tenth between them. This results only meant that the action will be so nice to see in tomorrow’s heats. Jorrit Pex (KR/TM Racing/B’stone) and Alex Irlando (Birel Art/TM Racing/B’stone) completed the top3.

KZ2: best lap for Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art/TM Racing/B’stone)

The new season for KZ2 starts this weekend with a total of 75 drivers’ entries, a very big number that also means a highly competitive level on track.

Like in KZ, the first practice session was all about warming up the kart components before starting the day. In practice 2, Alexander Dahlberg (Birel ART/TM Racing/B’stone) confirmed that the Birel ART this season will be once again a one to watch with the quickest lap-time. This was also confirmed by Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art/TM Racing/B’stone) who was the quickest in the final practice.

The Italian repeated his great performance again in qualifying setting the pole position with a lap-time of 46.996 seconds, Simone Cunati (CRG/TM Racing/B’stone) finished second ahead of one of title favorites, Giuseppe Palomba (Croc Promotions/TM Racing/B’stone).

Academy Trophy: Christian Ho (Exprit/Vortex/B’stone) take the first position

After testing during Thursday, the FIA Karting Academy Trophy once again bring a great opportunity to the drivers to compete in equal conditions.

In those equal conditions for the 50 drivers that will race this season in the three rounds calendar, Spanish Maximus Mayer (Exprit/Vortex/B’stone) set the quickest lap-time in the opening practice. As the track improved, the drivers also improved their lap-times with the Italian Paolo Ferrari (Exprit/Vortex/B’stone) setting the pace. Final practice fastest lap was for Argentinian Lucas Bohdanowicz (Exprit/Vortex/B’stone).

But in qualifying the experience was key, Singaporean Christian Ho (Exprit/Vortex/B’stone) who competes in a lot of international championships, showed his credentials setting the pole position by 0.004 seconds over Paolo Ferrari and Serbian Filip Jenic (Exprit/Vortex/B’stone).

The class of this season has already shown a lot of competitiveness as the top7 was separated by one tenth and the top 36 by only half-a-second.
