New SKUSA Florida winter program to provide East Coast warm-up for 2018 Pro Tour.

TEMECULA, CA (October 31, 2017) – Having officially announced the formation and dates for their new Florida Winter Series back in June, Superkarts! USA is excited to confirm the venues and class structure for the two-weekend schedule. The season will begin on January 12-14 at AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex and will cap at Ocala Grand Prix on February 9-11. The series will feature four full days of racing over the two weekends, with Saturday and Sunday main events at both Homestead and Ocala. The series will feature Stock Honda and IAME categories, in addition to a local option Briggs 206 Senior class.

“It’s really exciting for all of us at Superkarts! USA to return the SKUSA name to winter competition in Florida,” admitted Tom Kutscher, Superkarts! USA CEO. “Don Janowski and Jim Murley launched the first Florida Winter Tour in 1998 before handing over the reigns over to Bill Wright, so this new expansion of our national program is taking SKUSA back to its roots. That’s exciting. We’re pleased to be able to work with the ownership groups at both Homestead and Ocala for our maiden voyage in Florida, and I’m certain that the series will become a cornerstone of our national program. I’m happy that this series will provide our East Coast customers with the opportunity to run two additional SKUSA races in 2018, ahead of the three Pro Tour events.”

Positioned as the unofficial ‘spring training’ program for the 2018 SKUSA Pro Tour, the Winter Series will offer categories that provide drivers that opportunity to prepare for the national season. The Stock Honda will remain the formula for SKUSA’s gearbox competitions in 2018, and the Winter Series will run two classes – Pro Stock Honda and Master Stock Honda. The Pro Stock Honda class will be a combined category for S1 and S2 drivers, and the Master Stock Honda will be open to all drivers 30 years of age and older. All five IAME categories will be on the line-up, including Micro and Mini Swift, X30 Junior, X30 Senior and X30 Master.

The final category will be a local option Briggs 206 Senior class, which will be included at both Homestead and Ocala. SKUSA wishes to support the grassroots program by including it in a few events, as they did at the recent Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix. Florida is home to many Briggs 206 racers, and the winter programs are also very attractive to Canadian racers looking to escape the northern winter weather to get back behind the wheel. The inclusion of the 206 Senior category will provide these drivers with a chance to sample SKUSA competition and hospitality.

The program will run under the Superkarts! USA rulebook, expect for the fact that the drivers will utilize MG tires for the two Winter Series weekends.
