Shinjji Sawada wins the 2012 International Red Bull Kart Fight at the Bologna Motorshow

The international title of the Red Bull Kart Fight was contended this past weekend at the Motorshow in Bologna (Italy) in the frame of the Speed Day organized by the Austrian brand. The winner was Shinjji Sawada, the thirteen year old representing Japan.

The 20 national finalisst competed over three races on Sunday, but the decisive one was the feature final race that started with a grid based on the combined results of Race A and Race B (which featured grid inversion compared to the closing order of the first race): in the “super” final Sawada jumps immediately into the lead with Czech driver Višak and Russian driver Rozhkov close behind. The Japanese leads the whole race, but Vasiliy Rozhkov charges on strong and rises up the field  (“Halfway through the race I had a considerable gap from the leader, but I was able to recover”) to try his chance at the title on the last lap: he overtakes his Japanese rival, but then messes up. As he himself admits: “I made a mistake while I was defending  and so he got passed me again.” In fact, in the end Sawada takes back control and claims victory on the fly over Rozhkov, followed by Višak, the Brazilian finalist Fábio Corrêa Konrad and the Italian Laurito, who on Saturday had qualified fastest.
The Speed Day also included a Pro race, with the big stars of motorsport at the wheel of karts provided once again by Birel, chosen as provider of the entire Red Bull final world eventfor its vast experience in endurance races. Here the winner is DTM driver Miguel Molina, followed by Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, who had started the race in pole, with Vitantonio Liuzzi claiming 3rd place.
What a great spectacle to celebrate this 2012 Red Bull Kart Fight, as we wait for a new 2013 edition!
