FIA Karting World Championship, Lonato: qualifying - Pole position for Kremers (KZ) and Gustafsson (KZ2)
Max Bernardi
02 October 2020

The weekend of the KZ World Championship and the KZ2 International Super Cup, at the South Garda Karting circuit in Lonato, starts uwith uncertain weather conditions. The qualifications take place according to the following program:

16:15 - 16:23 KZ2 Series 1
16:30 - 16:38 KZ2 Series 2
16:45 - 16:53 KZ2 Series 3
17:00 - 17:08 KZ2 Series 4

17:15 - 17:23 Academy Series 1
17:30 - 17:38 Academy Series 2

17:45 - 17:53 KZ Series 1
18:00 - 18:08 KZ Series 2

The track is initially wet, but it does not rain. Group 1 of KZ2 practically opts entirely for rain tires. Already in Group 2 some daredevils try to get on track with slick tires, but the choice does not pay, even if the times are lowered as the track conditions improve. The third group riders practically all hit the track with slick tires, and it is the right choice. Group 4 will do the same, too bad that a light rain makes the track very slow and complicated with a consequent increase in lap times.

Wet conditions and rain tires, instead, for both KZ groups.

The reigning World Champion and recent winner of the KZ European Championship, Marijn Kremers (Birel ART Racing - Ricciardo Kart - TM Racing), marks the absolute pole position - in the wet - obtained by participating in the qualifying of group 2 of the KZ. On the other hand, in group 1 the best time is set by Luca Corberi (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex) not without battling on the edge of the thousandths with his opponents.
Third place for Stan Pex (KR Motorsport - KR - TM Racing) who holds the best time in group 2 for most of the qualifying, but was surprised at the last by Kremers.
Jeremy Iglesias (Formula K Racing Team - Formula K - TM Racing) also scores his best lap at the last time, a time that allows him to be 4th overall ahead of Bas Lammers (Sodikart - Sodi - TM Racing).
Jorrit Pex (KR Motorsport - KR - TM Racing) and Emilien Denner (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex), who take part in qualifying in group 1, Corberi's, seem to be the fastest on the track, initially. Their 3rd and 4th group time places them in 6th and 8th position in the general classification.
Among them, in 7th place in the general classification, we find Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex), author of the 4th time in his group, about half a second behind Kremers, ahead of Fabian Federer (SRP Racing Team - Maranello - TM Racing), 9th overall.
Closing the top 10 of the general classification, Matteo Viganò (Leclerc By Lennox Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing).
Good 7th place in group 1 for Petr Ptacek. The Czech driver, an old kart acquaintance now engaged in Formula Renault EuroCup, closes 0.457 from the pole position of his group, in 14th position overall.
