Swede Emil Skaras has taken the victory during final of the first round of FIA Karting European Championship of KZ2 at the German track of Wackersdorf. The Energy Corse official driver had to strongly defend from Simone Cunati and Riccardo Longhi.

After a very wet day yesterday during the qualifying heats for KZ2 drivers, today’s final heats took part in a dry track.

Alexander Schmitz from Renda Motorsport finishing second in heat A-B, had enough to secure the pole position for the final. The Italian Ricardo Longhi (Birel ART/TM Racing/B’Stone) was the winner of the heat. The other heat, heat C-D was won also by an Italian, Giuseppe Palomba (Croc Promotion/TM Racing/B’stone) was the winner.

So, Schmitz (Tony Kart/Vortex/B’stone) was on pole position for the final, just ahead of Emil Skaras (Energy Corse/TM Racing/B’Stone) and Palomba.

At the start Emil Skaras immediately took the lead in front of Schmitz and Simone Cunati (CRG/TM Racing/B’stone).

Skaras was all the race in the lead but he had to deal with the big pressure from Simone Cunati who overtook Schmitz on lap 9.

Meanwhile, from 13th in the starting grid, Riccardo Longhi was getting closer to the top 3. The Italian overtook Schmitz on lap 17, and then it was all about defending for the race leader.

Emil Skaras had to defend from Simone Cunati and Riccardo Longhi for the latest 5 laps, and specially he defends his top spot really hard in the last two laps closing the inside to Cunati, leaving him and Longhi no way to pass him for the race victory.

The next and final round of FIA Karting European Championship of KZ2 will be held at the classic venue of Naples International Circuit at Sarno, Italy.
