[dropcap]E[/dropcap]xperienced drivers and young talents race side by side in Genk.
The second round of the CIK-FIA European Championship is taking place in Genk (Belgium) and there are great expectations for a thrilling show given the excellent skills of all the participants. 132 drivers coming from all around the world have arrived at the Horensbergdam Circuit this weekend and they were all busy trying to find the ideal setup of their karts, after the end of the scrutineering procedure. The outstanding level of experience and skill of these drivers is striking: for example, in the KZ category there are many drivers who can boast victories in World and European Championships. This kind of career is what the drivers of the KZ2 aim at: for them the race in Genk is the season-opener, but the European title is not their sole goal. Just look at the young Stan Pex (CRG-TM), who moved to KZ after his brilliant second place in last year’s European KZ2 Championship. The season began well for the Dutch driver: he is third in the current standings, behind the Italian Paolo De Conto (CRG-TM-Bridgestone) and the Czech Patrik Hajek (Kosmic-Vortex), after the first round of Sarno (Italy) three weeks ago.

The CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy on track too.
Season-opener on the 1,350-metre-long track in Genk also for the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy, the one-make series reserved to the best young talents. They joined the event from all around the world: the drivers taking part in this Exprit-Vortex-Bridgestone series aim at winning the trophy in order to take part in the world OK Junior Championship in Brandon (GB), driving for an OTK group works team.

This weekend, the programme of Genk offers the qualifying practice tomorrow morning, followed by the first heats early in the afternoon. On Sunday 14th May all the crucial races will be streamed on the official web channels cikfia.tv and cikfiachampionship.com. The broadcast starts at 10.00 am and finishes at 04.00 pm with the last Final. From 23rd May, the TV channel Motorsport TV will air the special report from Genk with a recap of the whole event.
