2011 JIM RUSSELL MEMORIAL IAME CHAMPIONSHIP CUP SET FOR MAY 13-15

Second year of special event returns to New Castle Motorsports Park

RAYMORE, MO (March 7, 2011) - The second annual Jim Russell Memorial IAME Championship Cup event will take place over the May 13-15 weekend at the famed New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana. The event is opened to all IAME engine owners with five categories offered on the event that follows a rare and unique race format. Pushing the equipment and the drivers to the limit, the three-day event will test the speed and endurance of both around the New Castle, Indiana circuit.

The format for the IAME Championship Cup is unlike any other event in North America. Categories offered will utilize IAME only engines in the Senior, Masters, Junior, Junior-2, and Cadet. Competitors will be put to the challenge of 15 minute plus one lap Prefinal events with 30 minute plus two laps Finals to decide the champions. For the Senior division, their main event will be stretched longer - 35 minute plus two laps - with the champion to be awarded an all-expense paid trip to compete in the Brunno Granna International Trophy event at the Circuit International de Lavelanet in Southern France on June 24-26, 2011.

Last year’s Senior winner Billy Lewis was the recipient of the Brunno Granna International Trophy event trip, “The IAME Championship Cup event was a really cool deal. The trophy is one of a kind and it was great of Russell Karting and IAME to award a trip to France for the winner. The trip was awesome. It was a challenge as the mechanics there did not speak English very well, but we were able to overcome that. I was leading in the Prefinal before it began to rain and second place moved me out of the way, forcing me to lose a bunch of spots. I ended up finishing fourth in the feature, still a good result. It was a great time and a very good learning experience.”

The Senior, Masters, Junior, and Junior-2 will utilize TAG USA rules for IAME Parilla Leopard engines only. The Mini Swift and Gazelle engines will be the only engine selections for the Cadet category, also under the TAG USA structure. Each of the five class winners will earn a unique Italian-designed silver cup that any driver would be glad to display on their trophy mantel.

Russell Karting’s Jim Russell Jr. is behind the event and commented on this year’s program, “This is going to be another great event. We are proud to be partnering with IAME and Dunlop once again to provide this special event. We hope to bring together a number of IAME racers from across the area and the country for a fun weekend filled with challenging races. To be able to provide a karter with a chance to race overseas at a prestigious event on a respected circuit is truly something you can not pass up.”

The Jim Russell Memorial IAME Championship Cup is promoted by Russell Karting and IAME with sponsorship from Dunlop. A website with information about the event is currently in development.
