The 2012 season is progressing great for ART Grand Prix, and the positive results keep coming for the French go-kart manufacturer. As the WSK Euro Series took off last week at Sarno, ART and its drivers hit the top both in the KF2 and KZ1 categories.
The biggest achievement came from Charles Leclerc, who cruised to victory in the KF2 final race. The Monaco-based driver, running for the ART Grand Prix Factory Team, ended up on-top in a day conditioned by the wet weather. During the whole race, he turned the fastest laps of the weekend, as a further confirmation of the great feel established with the ART TS-01 – IAME Parilla package.
The KF2 category could have given more satisfactions to the team without some unlucky breaks that prevented Ben Barnicoat and Niclas Nylund to express their huge speed potential. Barnicoat suffered from mechanical issues in the pre-final while he was in 5th place, and was forced to start last in the final. After proving to be one of the fastest man on the day, he could have aimed to put his class to full fruition on a wet racetrack.
It's been a pity, like for Nylund, who lost some ground due to some small but key mistakes after having scored the best laptime in qualifying and starting from the front row in the first race.
Ben Haney did not enjoy a better luck although he was set for an almost safe win in KZ1 and provided the whole team with an impressive pace. The British racer improved his performance, as well as the whole ART Grand Prix-TecSav over the weekend. In the final, he moved past the leader, Dreezen, but slightly touched a kerb in the process and the chassis sustained damage from the hit. Hanley then started to experience a steering issue and lost any chance for fight for the lead, wounding up in 6th place.
In the KF3 class, ART Grand Prix fielded 5 drivers: Yifan Xia, Lucas Marchi, Simo Laaksonen, Olli Peltola and Takuya Okada. All of them continued in their learning stage as they keep facing their first season in the category. They all showed great improvements despite the tough weather of Sarno. The team is confident about their growth, and sure that they will be able to fight at the top in the final stages of the international 2012 season.
The Factory Team is now ready to approach the first round of the KF3 CIK-FIA European Championship, scheduled at the French Varennes sur Allier track.

“I'm really satisfied with how this weekend went and ended up. I've always had great races at Sarno and with the tough weather we had the feeling has grown stronger and stronger. The rain confirmed the good performance of our chassis as demonstrated by our pole position. In qualifications I got a 10-second penalty but my pace has been good and I recovered without big problems up to the second place in the pre-final. At the start of the final I went behind Verstappen and started to pressure him. When Max made a mistake, I went into the lead and never looked back. We showed, and we have been supported by our laptimes, to have a superior pace compared to everybody else and I won without having to take too many risks. I want to thank the team, it's been a great weekend."

"The weekend at Sarno has been conditioned by the variable weather, which conditioned the technical work by forcing us to keep changing the chassis set-up. On the dry, the first feedback has proved positive, but then the rain started to fall. We started from a pretty good base and never made some really big changes. That enabled Charles to learn the track with the wet asphalt. The choice eventually paid off because he kept improving each time he went on-track. Leclerc cruised to a greatly-deserved win, a result that rewarded the team's work over the weekend. The KZ1 class has brought the same positive feeling. Hanley did a great job in the final as he passed Dreezen in the closing stages to hit the front. Unfortunately, a slight jump on a kerb damaged the chassis and compromised the day's outcome. In KF3, our fresh young drivers were forced to deal with a weather never seen before. Despite all the issues they improved all the time. The huge potential showed at Sarno is definitely promising for the next rounds."

La première saison de karting d’ART Grand Prix se développe formidablement bien
et les résultats positifs affluent de toutes parts pour le manufacturier français. La semaine dernière, ses pilotes ont brillé en KF2 et KZ1 lors de la première manche des WSK Euro Series qui se disputaient sur le circuit sicilien de Sarno.
Le meilleur résultat est à mettre au crédit de Charles Leclerc qui a remporté la finale de KF2. Le Monégasque qui court pour l’équipe d’usine ART Grand Prix a conclu une journée marquée par les intempéries en rayonnant sur la plus haute marche du podium. Charles a signé les meilleurs tours du week-end et apporte une nouvelle preuve de la qualité du package ART TS-01 – IAME Parilla
Sans la malchance qui a frappé Ben Barnicoat et Niclas Nylund et qui les a
empêchés d’exploiter leur potentiel, la catégorie KF2 aurait pu apporter d’autres motifs de satisfaction. Barnicoat a souffert de problèmes mécaniques en demi-finale alors qu’il occupait la 5ème place, en conséquence de quoi il a été obligé de prendre le départ de la finale depuis la dernière place. Après avoir démontré qu’il était l’un des pilotes les plus rapides en piste, il aurait pu envisager de récolter les fruits de son travail sur une piste humide.
La désillusion avait également élu domicile dans le camp de Nylund qui a perdu du temps à la suite d’erreurs mineures mais capitales pour le résultat final.
Pourtant, Niclas avait signé le meilleur tour de la qualification et s’élançait depuis la première ligne de la grille de la première course. Ben Hanley n’a pas eu plus de réussite. L’Anglais se dirigeait vers une victoire facile en KZ1 au cours d’une épreuve où il a fait preuve d’une exceptionnelle rapidité. Ben a fait progresser ses performances ainsi que celle d’ART Grand Prix-TEcSav tout
au long du week-end. En finale, il débordait le leader, Dreezen, mais effleurait un vibreur qui endommageait son châssis. Puis, Ben a été confronté à des problèmes de colonne de direction qui lui ont fait perdre toute chance de victoire et qui ont provoqué sa chute au 6ème rang final.
ART Grand Prix alignait 5 pilotes en catégorie KF3 qui font tous leurs débuts à ce niveau : Yifan Xia, Lucas Marchi, Simo Laaksonen, Olli Peltola et Takuya Okada. Ils ont poursuivi leur phase d’apprentissage et ont bien progressé malgré les conditions climatiques de Sarno. L’équipe a confiance en leur potentiel de développement et pense qu’ils seront en mesure de se battre aux avant-postes lors des dernières étapes de la saison internationale 2012. L’équipe d’usine prépare désormais la première manche du Championnat Européen KF3 CIK-FIA qui aura lieu sur le circuit de Varennes sur Allier, en France.

« Je suis très satisfait de la manière dont le week-end s’est déroulé ainsi que de sa conclusion. J’ai toujours fait de très belles courses à Sarno et, avec la météo capricieuse à laquelle nous avons eu droit, le sentiment n’a cessé d’être plus fort. La pluie a confirmé que notre châssis est performant comme le souligne la pole position. En qualification, j’ai reçu une pénalité de 10 secondes mais ma vitesse était bonne et j’ai bien rattrapé le coup en remontant sans difficulté à la 2ème place de la demi-finale. Au départ de la finale, j’étais derrière Verstappen et j’ai commencé à le mettre sous pression. Lorsque Max a fait une erreur, j’ai pris la tête et ne l’ai plus quittée. Comme le montrent nos temps au tour, nous étions plus rapides que tout le monde et j’ai gagné sans prendre trop de risques. Je remercie l’équipe pour ce fabuleux week-end.»

« Le week-end de Sarno a été conditionné par une météo variable qui a eu des
répercussions sur le travail technique car nous avons dû modifier les réglages du châssis. Sur piste sèche, le premier feedback était positif puis la pluie s’est mise à tomber. Nous sommes partis d’une bonne base et n’avons jamais apporté de changement majeur. Ça a permis à Charles d’apprendre la piste lorsqu’elle était mouillée. Le choix a finalement payé car il a amélioré ses temps à chaque fois qu’il prenait la piste. Charles Leclerc a volé vers une victoire bien méritée. C’est un succès qui récompense le travail de l’équipe. La catégorie KZ1 nous a apporté le même type de sensation. Ben Hanley a fait un travail remarquable en finale lorsqu’il a dépassé Dreezen pour prendre le commandement. Malheureusement, un petit saut sur un vibreur a endommagé le châssis et a compromis son résultat final. En KF3, notre groupe de jeunes pilotes a été obligé de s’adapter à une météo dont il n’avait pas l’expérience. Malgré quelques problèmes, ils ont constamment progressé. L’énorme potentiel que nous avions à Sarno est très prometteur pour les prochaines manches. »
---ITA: ART Grand Prix inizia al vertice la WSK Euro Series
La stagione 2012 sta entrando sempre più nel vivo e per ART Grand Prix i riscontri che arrivano dalla pista sono sempre più incoraggianti. La partenza della WSK Euro Series, avvenuto lo scorso fine settimana sul circuito di Sarno, ha visto ART Grand Prix ed i suoi piloti recitare un ruolo da grandi protagonisti, sia in KF2 che in KZ1.
La soddisfazione maggiore è arrivata da Charles Leclerc, che ha fatto sua la finale nella combattutissima classe KF2. Il successo del monegasco, uno dei piloti del Factory Team di ART Grand Prix, è giunto al termine di una gara resa molto insidiosa dalla pista bagnata. Leclerc ha “certificato” la sua vittoria con tempi sul giro che lo hanno consacrato come il più veloce del fine settimana, a dimostrazione dell’ottimo feeling di Charles con il pacchetto tecnico ART TS-01 – IAME Parilla.
Sempre nella classe KF2, le soddisfazioni avrebbero potuto essere di portata
ancora più ampia, se alcuni episodi sfortunati non avessero impedito a Ben
Barnicoat e Niclas Nylund di esprimere tutto il loro potenziale velocistico.
Barnicoat ha avuto un problema tecnico nella pre-finale, quando occupava la quinta posizione, ed è stato costretto a prendere il via della finale dall’ultima fila della griglia di partenza. Barnicoat su pista asciutta era stato uno dei più piloti più veloci del lotto e con pista bagnata avrebbe potuto dimostrare tutta la sua classe e sensibilità di guida.Un vero peccato, così come per Nylund, che ha perso terreno per qualche piccolo ma fatale errore, dopo aver siglato il miglior tempo nel proprio turno di qualifica ed essere scattato dalla prima fila nelle manche.
Decisamente sfortunata è stata anche la prova di Ben Hanley, che in KZ1 era
avviato verso una vittoria ormai a portata di mano. Le prestazioni del pilota inglese e del pacchetto tecnico ART Grand Prix-TecSav sono cresciute progressivamente durante tutto il weekend: in finale Ben si è portato al comando superando il leader Dreezen ma, purtroppo, durante la manovra di sorpasso Ben ha toccato un cordolo ed il telaio ha subito un forte colpo, danneggiandosi. Hanley ha subito sentito problemi allo sterzo ed è stato costretto ad abbandonare la lotta per il primato, scivolando fino alla sesta posizione finale.
In classe KF3, ART Grand Prix è scesa in pista con ben cinque piloti: Yifan Xia,
Lucas Marchi, Simo Laaksonen, Olli Peltola e Takuya Okada. Il folto gruppo di
giovani, tutti al loro primo anno nella categoria, ha proseguito il percorso di
apprendistato, evidenziando miglioramenti anche nelle difficili condizioni
meteorologiche che hanno caratterizzato il weekend di Sarno. Siamo fiduciosi che le loro prestazioni cresceranno nel corso della stagione e potranno lottare per le posizione di vertice negli ultimi appuntamenti della stagione agonistica
internazionale.
L’attenzione del Factory Team è ora rivolta al primo round del CIK-FIA European
Championship di KF3, sulla pista francese di Varennes sur Allier.
>> CHARLESE LECLERC:
“Sono molto soddisfatto dell’esito finale di questo weekend. Con la pista di Sarno ho sempre avuto un buon feeling e sul bagnato questa sensazione è stata ancora più evidente. La pioggia ha confermato il rendimento molto buono del nostro telaio, come ha evidenziato anche la pole position. Nelle manche di qualificazione ho subito 10 secondi di penalità, ma il mio ritmo è sempre stato molto buono ed ho recuperato terreno senza troppi affanni, arrivando ad ottenere la seconda posizione nella pre-finale. Al via della gara finale, le condizioni della pista erano molto insidiose e mi sono portato alle spalle di Verstappen, mettendogli pressione.
Quando Max ha commesso un errore mi sono portato in testa e non ho più avuto
problemi. Abbiamo dimostrato, grazie anche ai tempi sul giro, di avere un passo
superiore a tutti, e sono riuscito a vincere in tranquillità senza prendere rischi eccessivi. Ringrazio tutta la squadra, è stato un gran weekend”.

“Il fine settimana di Sarno è stato caratterizzato dalla variabile meteorologica, che ha complicato molto il lavoro tecnico, costringendoci a cambiare le regolazioni dei telai in continuazione. Sull’asciutto, i primi riscontri sono stati buoni, ma presto è iniziata a cadere la pioggia. Siamo partiti con un set-up di base già buono e non abbiamo mai fatto grandi cambiamenti, permettendo a Charles di acquisire sempre maggior dimestichezza con le condizioni dell’asfalto. E’ una scelta che ha pagato, visto che ogni volta che Charles è entrato in pista, i riscontri cronometrici sono costantemente migliorati. Quella di Leclerc è stata una vittoria meritatissima, che premia l’ottimo lavoro che ha svolto durante tutto il fine settimana. Il rammarico del
weekend è stato il successo sfumato nella classe KZ1. Hanley ha fatto un lavoro
fantastico ed in finale è riuscito a passare Dreezen, portandosi perentoriamente al comando. Un banale salto su un cordolo ha piegato leggermente il telaio,
vanificando tutto il lavoro fatto. In KF3 i nostri giovanissimi piloti hanno pagato l’esperienza di gareggiare con condizioni meteorologiche mai sperimentate prima, ma nonostante ciò sono cresciuti di prestazione nel corso del week-end. Il potenziale mostrato anche a Sarno ci fa ben sperare in vista dei prossimi impegni”.
