Esordio sfortunato, ma ottime basi
All’esordio in KF2, raccoglie meno di quanto meriterebbe. In una manche non parte per la candela bagnata. Passa così dalla finale di recupero che vince: in prefinale un contatto lo costringe al 23° posto e in finale, mentre è al 10° posto, si tocca con un avversario e chiude 26°. Può fare bene durante l’anno.
Callum Ilott - KF3
Velocissimo: è mancata una gomma (bucata)
Non è una novità per chi segue il kart: diverse le sue esperienze in Inghilterra e Germania. Su 5 manche fa segnare 3 miglior giri: in prefinale parte 8°, ma sfila subito ultimo. È costretto a rimontare e risale al 12° posto (suo il 3° miglior giro). In finale parte bene, poi una foratura lo costringe a un 10° posto “in difesa”.
Lance Stroll - KF3
Serve una vittoria per sbloccarsi
È sempre uno dei più veloci, ma nelle manche due incidenti in partenza lo penalizzano, non qualificandolo per le finali. Ha tutto per vincere ma, forse, una specie di sindrome della non vittoria e le tante aspettative lo bloccano. Il pilota c’è: è solo questione di tempo…
Dan Ticktum - KF3
Obiettivo: crescita costante post esordio
Pochi mesi fa correva nella 60 Mini in Inghilterra: al suo debutto nella KF3 e in una gara Internazionale si difende bene (in una manche chiude al 4° posto), ma non riesce a qualificarsi. Come tutti i piloti deve correre per almeno un anno in questa tipologia di gare. Crescerà gara dopo gara.
Nikita Mazepin - KF3
Dalla Russia senza test in pista
Una brutta influenza non gli permette di effettuare i test come gli altri piloti. Proveniente dalla 60 Mini, si presenta alla Winter Cup senza praticamente essere mai salito sul kart. Non trova il giusto assetto e non si qualifica, ma di più non poteva fare. Giustificato.
Jinya Yamakawa - KF3
Piede pesante: ma serve più pista
Non si qualifica per le finali, ma i tempi sono incoraggianti: non solo nelle manche dove raccoglie poco, ma soprattutto in un paio di warm up dove è risultato uno dei più veloci in pista. Arrivando dal Giappone solo il mercoledì, corre su piste spesso sconosciute, risultando “in ritardo” rispetto agli altri. Ma il piede c’è.

The 17th Winter Cup took place on the South Garda Karting circuit in Lonato (Brescia, Italy). Chiesa Corse attended the international season opener with drivers in the KF2 and KF3 non-shifter categories.
Thiago Vivaqua - KF2
Unlucky debut, but great foundations
At his debut in KF2, he collects less than he deserves. In one heat a wet sparkplug keeps him from starting. He moves on to the recovery race and wins. Then in the prefinal a contact pushes him into 23rd place and in the final, another contact while he is 10th forces him to close 26th. He’s got what it takes do well this year.
Callum Ilott - KF3
Very fast, but a tire goes missing (flat)
He’s known among kart fans thanks to his experience in England and Germany. He scores 3 best laps over 5 heats. He starts the prefinal 8th, but immediately ends up last and has to recover, climbing back to 12th place (and also collecting 3rd best lap). In the final he does a good start, but a flat tire only allows him to place 10th “in defense”.
Lance Stroll - KF3
He needs a victory to loosen up
He is one of the fastest all weekend, but in the heats two starting accidents penalize him, keeping him from qualifying for the finals. He has everything it takes to win, but maybe a sort of lack-of-victory complex and high expectations are blocking him. He’s got the skills; it’s just a matter of time…
Dan Ticktum - KF3
His goal: after the debut, constant growth
Just a few months ago he was racing in the 60 Mini in England. At his debut in KF3 at international race he defends himself well (closing 4th in one heat), yet he doesn’t manage to qualify. Like everyone else, he has at least a year ahead of races of this caliber. For sure, he’ll grow with each one.
Nikita Mazepin - KF3
From Russia without track tests
A bad case of the flu kept him from testing on track with other drivers. Coming from the 60 Mini, he shows up at the Winter Cup basically without having tried his kart. He can’t find the right set-up and doesn’t qualify, but he couldn’t have done better. Not guilty.
Jinya Yamakawa - KF3
Pedal to the metal, but not enough track yet
He doesn’t qualify for the finals, but his timed speeds are promising: not only in the heats where he doesn’t collect much, but especially in a couple of warm-ups where he is one of the fastest. Having arrived from Japan on Wednesday, he is racing on unknown tracks and often falls “behind” other drivers. But he’s got pedal.
