Steve Armstrong's RL Racing Department team enjoyed another successful season, with the Suffolk-based outfit adding the 2011 Formula Kart Stars and Gold Cup crowns to its long list of successes.
“What a year for RL!” says the delighted Team Principal and owner, Steve Armstrong. “Once again we’ve taken a large haul of silverware over the past 12 months, we can proudly call ourselves Formula Kart Stars, Gold Cup and British Open Champions”.
The team’s 2011 FKS campaign has been marked by a succession of podiums in eleven of the twelve rounds. In Mini Max Josh White claimed the overall title by showing excellent consistency. Not only that, he dominated the 3rd and 4th rounds at Three Sisters, with back-to-back victories. His team-mate, Samuel Oram-Jones also enjoyed an excellent campaign, taking a victory in the class on the way to 5th overall.
In Junior Max, Sam Marsh underlined his potential by ending his debut year in the class as Vice-Champion and with an unbeatable display at Ellough Park.
In the UK’s other premier national championship - the Ginetta Super One Series - the RL Racing Department was again a front-running team in the Mini and Junior Rotax classes.
Josh eventually claimed a fine 5th overall, with two victories and three 3rd-place finishes. Sam’s late season run of form maintained itself at the Super One finale, with a win and runner-up spot, giving him a creditable 7th in the points table.“Josh and Samuel claimed highly-prized seeded numbers and should be well-pleased with their efforts. Sam too. Junior Max is an incredibly tough class but he demonstrated his pace and signed-off 2011 with a clear signal of his intentions for next year’s championship.”
Harry Campey also claimed a seeded number in FKS, with 9th overall, but the highlight of his year will almost certainly be his triumph in the Mini Max ‘O Plate’, or British Open Championship. Prior to the closing S1 round at Three Sisters, Josh won the annual Gold Cup.
With a fresh line-up being prepared for the forthcoming 2012 title bids, Steve says: “I would like to congratulate all of the RL drivers for their efforts over the past year and am looking forward to working with our existing drivers, Sam Marsh and Josh White.”
He added: “I’d also like to extend a very warm welcome to Lando and Oli Norris. Lando is graduating from the cadet ranks after marking himself as a genuine star and proven race-winner in Comer. Oliver is making the unusual step of entering the Junior Max fray after competing in KF3. He’s an exciting driver and definitely one to watch. They’ll be joined by two new drivers, who’ll be officially announced soon. That’s all I’m saying for now...”
