
Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, November 26, 2011 – BRP crowned its grand champions of the 2011 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF) kart race held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates from November 19 through November 26. Meritus.GP, one of the most prestigious racing organizations in Asia, awarded a JK Test Scholarship to the 125 MAX world champion.
“We are happy to award the JK TEST Scholarship to the winner of the prestigious Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in the 125 MAX class, and we hope it will become an annual
scholarship to promote and motivate young karters,” said Peter Thompson, president of
Meritus.GP. The two-day training in a Formula JK Series race car will be held in January 2012 on the Sepang Formula One circuit in Malaysia.
The first edition of the RMCGF took place in 2000. We started with 66 drivers from 19 countries in the 125 MAX class This week we had 265 competitors from 59 countries who competed in their respective categories towards a world championship, the youngest driver being 12 years old; the eldest 58.
According to Gerd Ohrnberger, vice-president and general manager of BRP-Powertrain: "More than 3,000 people participated in this year's edition of the RMCGF. The competition, our biggest Grand Finals ever, was tough with more than 265 participants from 59 countries but four of them demonstrated their abilities and aptitudes by coming through the gate first."
The Rotax MAX Challenge (RMC) is the biggest kart race series in the world. During the
season, authorized BRP-Powertrain kart distributors organize national/international
competitions around the world. The best drivers from these Rotax MAX Challenges qualify for the annual GRAND FINAL. The RMC follows strict rules. Sealed engines, same tyres and similar vehicles, ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to win. Modifications are strictly forbidden.
